OUR SPACE

Bright, beautiful, and spacious. Shizen's Yoga studio is fully equipped with everything you need for a luxurious and mindful yoga practice in the heart of Nozawa onsen.

Premium non-slip natural rubber yoga mats, yoga blocks, straps, meditation cushions, blankets and bolsters available for use, once you've booked your class you're ready to flow or slowly stretch with us on the mat.

The studio is located on level 2 of Nozawa Shimataya View Hotel in a large light filled tatami room overlooking the mountains. Enjoy sunrise as light streams in from the front windows, then bask in the glow of sunset in the evenings from the windows at the entrance.

The studio is large enough to hold 40 mats comfortably, however it is usually sectioned off to create a more intimate yoga experience fitting 10-20 mats with ample space around them. 

Community tea/sitting area inside the studio, please arrive 5-15 minutes before class starts so you have time to settle.

Class Types

Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for a long time, our teachers will adjust the classes and give options to suit everyone in the space. All are welcome, we can't wait to meet you on the mat.

First Tracks Flow & Yoga Flow

A moving meditation in the morning, Shizen flow classes are fluid and dynamic, mindfully sequenced and expertly guided. Aimed to stretch, strengthen, and refresh your body, heart and mind.

Flow yoga is characterised by smooth transitions between asanas paired with active and mindful movement of the breath.

PRIVATE YOGA SESSIONS

Deepen your practice with 1:1 tailored sequencing/advice and/or schedule on demand yoga classes at a time that suits you.

1:1 OR PRIVATE SMALL GROUP YOGA CLASSES AVAILABLE VIA APPOINTMENT.

CLASS LOCATION: Shizen Yoga studio or in guest accomodation.

INVESTMENT: ¥7000 per 1 hour class for 1-2 people. 2 or more people +¥1300p/p.

Slow Stretch Yin Yoga
MON • THU • FRI • SAT SUN

Slow stretch Yin Yoga classes are passive and effortless, aimed to deeply stretch and stimulate the body’s muscles, myofascial tissues and joints.

The best way to give your body some relief and love after a big day on the slopes.

All poses are practiced lying down or seated where we slowly stretch.

Perfect for absolute beginners/'non yogis' to advanced practitioners.

All Slow stretch Yin classes are 60minutes in duration

For aspiring or already trained/established yoga teachers, schedule a 1:1 appointment with Shizen founder and 500hr RYT Yoga instructor Rowie to deepen your understanding of the practice, and how you can share it with your students.

Yang Yin Yoga
TUES • WED • FRI • SAT

A well balanced practice moving from effort to ease.

Part 1 of class is spent actively moving through some dynamic (and perhaps familiar) yoga poses and new movements techniques to provide elasticity and strength.

Part 2 of class is spent slowly melting into a Yin Yoga sequence to provide a real release to both your subtle and gross body.

60-75 minutes in duration, Shizen's yang Yin classes are a new way to move that will leave you feeling revitalised, relaxed and refreshed.
